"Konpeitō" (Con-Pei-Toh), also known as Japanese Star Candy, is often gifted for Celebrations or left as an offering at shrines and temples. Used as the official welcoming gift by the imperial family for over 130 years, Konpeitō was even included within Japanese Ministry of Defense's Emergency Food Ration tins with the hope that the colorful and small sweet could offer momentary joy in times of hardship.
